Major Business Districts
Lexington's major businesses are part of Massachusetts growth sectors in high-tech and life sciences. The business community is comprised of the following three commercial districts:
Hartwell Avenue Area District
Bordered by Hanscom Air Force base and home to MIT Lincoln Laboratory, this district is one of the most prominent defense industry and life sciences related hubs in the Boston area. The district is Lexington's largest with over 17 million square feet of land area and easily accessible from Boston as well as from the north. Other prominent businesses in the area include BAE, Synta Pharmaceuticals, EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Instrumentation Laboratory and Varian, Inc.

Forbes Road/Route 2A District
Directly adjacent to Route 128/I95, this is the location for Lexington's newest hotels and globally connected high-tech businesses. Both lab/biotech users as well as suburban office users are located in this corporate area. The largest business in the Forbes Road district is Antigenics, a biotechnology company that focuses on cancer vaccines and other disease treatments.

Hayden Avenue District
Home to the second largest area for Lexington's well-diversified business community, the area is characterized by its cluster of life sciences companies. Characterized by its wide laws and treed vistas, the area hosts leading companies such as Shire HGT, Cubist Pharmaceuticals and Vista Print. With a land area of over 11 million square feet adjacent to the intersection of Routes 128 and Route 2, the area offers convenient access to both suburban Boston centers as well as to Cambridge – the biotech center of the region.
